Real Madrid play Athletic Bilbao on Saturday night in San Mames at 20:45 CEST. It is the start of a difficult week for los Blancos as they also start their Champions League campaign against Roma also. There are still 5,000 tickets remaining for that clash with six days to go. Real Madrid have internationals back

Julen Lopetegui trained on Wednesday with all of his international players aside from Casemiro, who played late Tuesday with Brazil. The Spanish players and Luka Modric travelled up from Elche and were ready for action and it looks like there are no injury concerns for the game on Saturday against Athletic Bilbao.

Alessandro del Piero gives Real Madrid the nod as Champions League favourites

Asked about who the favourites for the Champions League, the former Juve striker, Del Piero, said "I still see Real Madrid as favourites, even after losing Cristiano."

Manchester United insist on Varane

The Express in Engand report that United offered €112 million for Raphael Varane during the summer but Real Madrid rejected the offer. At 25, and being a multiple Champions League winner and a World Cup winner, it would take mroe that that figure to force Real Madrid to sell the French defender.

Hector Herréra and Lopetegui meet in Porto

The pair worked together in Porto and the Mexican midfielder is a free agent at the end of the season. He can start negotiating with teams in January and Lopetegui might see him as a replacement for Mato Kovacic if he decides to leave next summer.

Real Madrid have money to spend

Florentino Pérez is looking to indebt Real Madrid to fund their new Bernabeu project. They have €372 million to buy a galactico but it remains to be seen what the president and the club decide to do with the money or if the main targets, Neymar and Kylian Mbappé, would move to the club.
