Jordi Alba was quizzed on the possibility of playing a Liga fixture against Girona in the USA after his side’s victory over Real Sociedad in San Mamés and appeared to contradict the club’s official stance over the controversial proposal.

Barça spokesman Josep Vives stated earlier in the week that the senior squad had been consulted over the idea of playing the week 21 fixture in Miami and had given their approval for the game to be staged there but Alba denied any knowledge of the affair when speaking to reporters.

Alba: "There’s not much the players can do about it anyway"

The Girona-Barcelona game is a decision that the club has to make,” the left back said. “Nobody has spoken to me, I don’t know if they have spoken to the captains. Would I like the game to be played there? It’s a long journey and Girona fans would prefer it to be played at their stadium but at the end of the day there’s not much the players can do about it anyway.”

I think that the players understand the position of the club,” Vives said last Wednesday. “They understand what the necessities are for Barça and for LaLiga. Today we are not just playing at Camp Nou, we are playing on a global stage. After we sat down with them, explained everything to them and gave them the details, we are now past the stage where any of the players should feel in any way put out.”
