Real Madrid host Atlético in the derby this Saturday on the back of a humbling evening in the Sánchez Pizjuán where Julen Lopetegui’s side were soundly beaten 3-0 by a Sevilla team even the Real boss conceded had been far superior.

Real managed just three shots on target during that game and Karim Benzema has now gone four matches without a mustering a single one, leaving Lopetegui with a firepower problem for the visit of Diego Simeone’s side.

Benzema and his strike partners Gareth Bale and Marco Asensio have scored just five times against Atlético over the course of 57 combined games, a goal-shy record that the visiting side will be eager to extend in the Bernabéu. Of Madrid’s front three Benzema has hit the most against the Rojiblancos with four, but has required 27 games to do so. Bale has scored only once in 15 matches against Atlético and Asensio has yet to ripple the opposition net in eight appearances against the Madrid city rivals. Sergio Ramos has the same number as Real’s entire front three on Saturday and furthermore, none of the five strikes scored by the BBA against Atlético have come in the Bernabéu.

Antoine Griezmann, on the other hand, has scored seven times against Real Madrid during his career, bagging five for Atlético and two when he was at Real Sociedad. In his last three Liga visits to the Bernabéu the France striker has found the net on every occasion, providing the winner in a 1-0 victory in 2015-16 and ensuring Atlético left with a point in consecutive 1-1 draws in 2016-17 and 2017-18.

Of Real’s current squad only Benzema, Bale, Ramos, Marcelo (2), Dani Ceballos (1) and Isco (1) have ever scored against Atlético and the Brazilian left back and the Spain midfielder are both injured as Real seek to overturn a record of five home derbies without a victory.
