Courtois to return to the bench in Moscow, Keylor starts - reports
Belgian daily 'HLN' report Courtois will return to the subs' bench three days after his great display against Atlético. Keylor will continue as Madrid's keeper in the Champions League.
Thibaut Courtois will sit on the subs' bench in this evening's Champions League meeting with CSKA Moscow, according to Het Laatste Nieuws (HLN). Last week, the Belgian told the same newspaper that Real Madrid do not have a strict rotation policy in place for the goalkeeping position and that there is nothing to suggest that Keylor will play in the team's Champions League games and he will play in LaLiga. But according to HLN, tonight's game in Moscow will be the second consecutive time that Courtois has started on the bench in European competition after starting the last five league games (Leganés, Athletic, Espanyol, Sevilla and Atlético).
Two goalkeepers, five competitions
Keylor Navas kept goal for Lopetegui's team in the first official game of the new season - the UEFA Super Cup, but that was only because Courtois, who has recently arrived on a 35 million euro deal (plus a further 5M in add-ons), wasn't listed to play in the competition. When LaLiga started, the coach handed Keylor starts in the first two games (against Getafe and Girona) and played Courtois in the following two (Leganés and Athletic). For the first group game of the Champions League, Keylor was back between the sticks but since then, it's been Courtois who has been the first choice in LaLiga. In total, the Belgian has racked up 450 minutes of playing time and the Costa Rican, 390.
