The French authorities are to launch a match-fixing investigation into the Champions League game between Paris Saint-Germain and Red Star Belgrade at the Parc des Princes on October 3 after a report from respected national daily L’Equipe alleged that a director at the Serbian champions may have placed bets totalling five million euros on what turned out to be the exact outcome of the fixture.

According to L’Equipe, Uefa alerted the relevant authorities in France acting on information from an informant, whose identity has not been revealed but who the newspaper described as being reliable, that the unnamed Red Star executive placed bets through a network of accomplices amounting to five million euros that the Serbian side would lose by a margin of five goals. The game eventually ended 6-1 to PSG, with Neymar scoring a hat-trick.

If the information is correct, the Red Star director stood to make tens of millions from the match, L’Equipe stated, in what would be one of the largest alleged match-fixing cases in history.
