Angola have won this year’s Amputee World Cup in Mexico, beating Turkey 5-4 in a penalty shoot-out in Sunday’s final.

After regular time, the match ended 0-0, and the deadlock could not be broken in extra-time.

At 4-4, Angola’s goalkeeper, Jesus, made a crucial save to deny Turkey.

The West Africans, who finished as runners-up at the last World Cup, sealed the tournament thanks to a winning spot-kick from Henio Guilerme.

Nigeria failed to make the second round

Nigeria and Kenya also represented Africa at the tournament in Mexico.

Kenya made it through to the knock-out stage for the first time, but eventually lost to Russia in the round of 16.

Nigeria’s Special Eagles – who launched a fundraising campaign to reach the tournament - failed to make the second round, after two defeats and one victory in the group phase.

Liberia and Ghana, who had also qualified for the competition, withdrew before the start, as Liberia reportedly failed to secure the visas on time and Ghana faced financial difficulties.
