"Another one for the collection Antonin," says Ramos after latest Panenka

After scoring yet another audacious Panenka-style penalty against Celta Vigo, Ramos has made reference to the legendary Czech player who first unveiled the technique to the world in 1976.

Following Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure in the summer, Sergio Ramos has become Real Madrid’s spot-kick specialist, scoring five penalty goals from five attempts so far this season.

Three of the last four he has taken have been in the audacious ‘Panenka’ style (a lightly chipped penalty down the center to fool the keeper), the last of which came in the 4-2 victory over Celta Vigo on Sunday night.

Following the victory, Ramos published an image of his ‘Panenka’-style penalty against Vigo keeper Sergio Alvarez on social media, accompanied by a message that made reference to the legendary Czech player who was the first to present the bold technique to the world at Euro 1976, Antonin Panenka.

“Great win, lads! We overcome difficulties and regain confidence by working together. And another one for the collection Antonin,” the Madrid captain wrote on his Instagram.

Ramos the best imitator, says Panenka

In a recent interview with Goal, Panenka, who admitted to practicing the penalty technique for two years before finally unveiling it at Euro 1976, had nothing but praise for Ramos, saying: “Yeah, he [Ramos] had already done that twice, right? So I guess he could be the best imitator, because he made it more than once.”

"People know it about him, and he still makes it, so that is great for him."
