Real Madrid are planning to bring forward a move for Manchester City and Spain under-21 international Brahim Díaz to January and are in talks with the Premier League club, AS understands.

Díaz, 19, is out of contract next summer and it was expected Madrid would wait to secure the midfielder on a free transfer but with PSG also circling the Bernabéu board have decided to make City an offer now.

Díaz has set his sights on a move to Madrid and made his intention plain to Manchester City, with Pep Guardiola admitting that although he would like him to stay, there is little City can do if he wants to leave.

One option that was rejected by Madrid for Díaz to arrive in January was a part-exchange with City having their pick of the Real academy in return. Now it appears that City are willing to do business in January for a cash deal instead of losing a player brought through the ranks in Manchester for nothing in six months’ time. Madrid are expected to be quoted a fee of between five and 10 million euros for Díaz.

In order to lure the highly rated teenager to Madrid, Real are preparing to table an offer of a six-year contract and a considerable salary increase on his City earnings. The Etihad hierarchy pulled out all the plugs to try and keep Díaz, but the Málaga-born player, who started out at his hometown club and was signed by the Premier League side in 2013, is eager to return to Spain and is not getting much playing time at City. So far this season he has made just three appearances and is vying for a place in Guardiola’s side with the likes of established internationals Raheem Sterling, Leroy Sané and Riyad Mahrez.
