After seeing a shot deflected behind by a CSKA defender early in the second half, the Spaniard approached referee Artur Soares Dias to complain about the match officials' failure to award a corner, before apparently turning to the Madrid fans and shouting: "What do you want?"

A section of the Bernabéu support responded by whistling Isco, whose team-mate Marcelo later revealed that the midfielder turned down the captain's armband when the Brazilian was replaced by Dani Carvajal later in the match.
