Munir El Haddadi will not continue at Barcelona once his contract runs out on 30 June. The club has been aware of the player's decision since last week and unless there is a significant turnaround, he will move on this summer. Negotiations broke down after both sides were unable to find any middle ground - it leaves a youth academy player who promised so much set to leave without having had the chance to live up to his potential.

Munir leaves business side to his agent

Munir left everything in the hands of his agent, Francesc Valdivieso, who has spent the past few months working with Barça to try and reach an agreement. With Luis Suárez to turn 32 at the end of this month, Barça need to find a replacement and that worked in Munir's favour in his chances of continuing at the club. The forward's only request was to have more playing time - not so easy considering the current competition for places within Ernesto Valverde's side.

In the back offices at Camp Nou, officials were left scratching their heads at Munir's decision to turn down a new five-year contract and generous economic terms. However, AS was told by Barça sources that Munir's proposed contract renewal was scuppered because his agent sought an excessive commission fee. AS understands that the player's agent wanted “one and a half million euro fee to broker the deal”, although no one at the club would confirm that figure.
