The Spanish Football Federation has released a statement to say that its disciplinary committee has rejected Levante's case against Barcelona for fielding an ineligible player in the Copa del Rey last-16 tie on 10 January.

Following their 3-0 defeat at the hands of Barcelona in the second leg of the cup tie, which sent the Catalan club through 4-2 on aggregate, Levante had today submitted a complaint to the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) over Barca’s 19-year-old defender Chumi's alleged ineligibility to play in the first leg of the tie.

But the RFEF has rejected the complaint on the grounds that “it was received outside of the established deadline”, according to its statement.

RFEF regulations say that clubs have 24 hours after a midweek game to submit a complaint against a team suspected of fielding an ineligible player – in which case Levante only had until late on 11 January to take their case to the Federation.

But it seems that it is not 'case closed' for Levante, who have confirmed that they will now take their case to the Spanish FA's Appeals Committee.
