Todibo: "I know how important Xavi's number 6 is for Catalans"
The 19-year-old central defender has inherited the shirt of the club's record appearance maker after signing from Toulouse.
Jean-Clair Todibo was officially unveiled as a Barcelona player on Friday after completing his move from Toulouse to Camp Nou for a nominal fee and with a minimum release clause of 150 million euros.
Having passed the relevant medical examinations and put pen to paper on a contract running until 2023, the 19-year-old central defender, who can also operate as a holding midfielder, was handed the number six shirt recently vacated by Denis Suárez and spoke of its significance during his first press conference as a Barcelona player.
Todibo: "I loved watching Xavi play when I was a kid"
“It’s a childhood dream come true,” Todibo said at his presentation. “I’m very happy, proud and satisfied to be able to experience this with my family and the Barcelona directors. I want to improve in every aspect. I will play anywhere the coach asks me to and I will give everything for Barcelona.”
Todibo went on explain the significance of inheriting the number six shirt once worn by Barça legend Xavi and which players at the club he has looked up to.
“I loved watching Xavi play when I was a kid and I know the importance of this shirt for Catalans. I hope I live up to it. [Samuel] Umtiti is an example for me. He is a World Cup-winner and one the best in the world in his position. I will listen to his advice and he’ll help me to settle in quickly. I’m not ready to be a starter yet but I am ready to learn.”
