Pirlo lays into Juventus: "They completely lacked personality"
The former Juve midfielder was blunt in his assessment of the Old Lady after Atlético's 2-0 victory in the opening leg of their Champions League tie.
Former Juventus and Italy great Andrea Pirlo launched a scathing attack on his old club after Massimiliano Allegri’s side suffered a 2-0 defeat against Atlético Madrid on Wednesday.
Speaking to Sky Sports Italia following the game, Pirlo, who won the Champions League twice with AC Milan, said that Juventus had resembled a side that “completely lacked personality and didn’t want to play” in the Metropolitano.
Pirlo: "Atlético were going to score sooner or later"
Analysing Allegri’s tactical set-up, Pirlo said that Juventus were “waiting and watching; it looked like they just wanted the clock to run down. Sooner or later Atlético were going to score.”
Juventus will have to score at least twice in normal time to have any chance of going through when the teams meet again in Turin in two weeks’ time and Pirlo noted that his old side will have to be more ambitious in the Allianz Stadium: “You have to keep all your options open.”
Under Diego Simeone, Atlético have never lost a Champions League tie after triumphing in the opening leg. Juventus, meanwhile, have never overturned a 2-0 deficit in European competition home or away.
