"Allegri's time at Juve has come to an end" - Garleone
Massimiliano Allegri's mentor, Giovanni Galeone, has given his thoughts on the future of the Juventus coach, and he does not see it in Italy.
Giovanni Galeone is a retired coach who passed through the doors of several Italian clubs during his career, amongst them Napoli, Udinese and Perugia. He also happens to have been the mentor to Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri, about whom he has spoken in an interview withTutto Napoli.
Galeone claims that Allegri’s time at Juve is coming to an end, and that last summer he had offers from four important clubs, including Real Madrid, who approached him following the shock exit of Zinedine Zidane.
The former Udinese boss believes that if Allegri leaves the Bianconeri this summer, it will not be to manage an Italian team, but perhaps to face a new challenge abroad.
"Allegri in the Premier next season? I've been saying it for a few years now. I do not know. There are no more clubs for him in Italy,” he said.
“No matter how they finish in the Champions League, I think Allegri's adventure at Juve is over. Last summer he could have gone to Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United or Real Madrid. He rejected those offers to win the Champions League with Juve. If he does not achieve that, it's not a big deal. He is not obligated to win it because they have Ronaldo.”
After their 2-0 defeat to Atlético Madrid in the first leg of the Champions League last-16 tie, Juve have left themselves an uphill battle to reach the quarter finals. Galeone took the opportunity to defend Allegri from the criticism by legendary Italian coach Arrigo Sacchi following the game.
“If Allegri wins the Champions League, it will be dedicated to Sacchi. Juve must believe that they can qualify for the quarterfinals. Allegri must believe that, therefore they must show their qualities to the media and to the luminaries like Arrigo Sacchi. You cannot attack a coach who has won ten titles.”
