Champions League/Europa League: quarter-final draw: as they happened

The draws for both the 2018/19 UEFA Champions League and Europa League competitions were concluded in Nyon this morning with plenty of talking points from both competition fixtures.

LaLiga's sole Champions League representative FC Barcelona will face a tie with Manchester United in a match-up which is a repeat of the 2009 and 2011 finals.

There was one all Premier League tie with Guardiola's City meeting Tottenham with Ajax-Juventus and Liverpool vs. FC Porto completing the draw.

The Europa League draw pitted both Spanish sides together in a Mediterranean coast derby with both sides from the Comunitat de Valencia, Villarreal and Valencia going head to head.

Arsenal-Napoli, Benfica-Eintracht Frankfurt and Chelsea-Slavia Prague complete the ties for the quarter-final stage.

And then there were eight. This morning Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Spurs, Barça, Juventus, FC Porto and Ajax will not only learn of their opponents for the quarter-finals of the 2018/19 UEFA Champions League, but also learn of the path ahead to the June 1st final as the draw will also be made for the semi-final stage.

Manchester City, Barcelona and Juventus start as favourites for the bookmakers but at this stage of the competition no side can be taken lightly as Real Madrid discovered when unfancied Ajax offered a stunning second leg display at the Santiago Bernabeu to eliminate the current champions.

The draw starts at midday with the Europa League draw set to take place at 13:00 CET where surviving Spanish representatives Villarreal and Valencia will also learn of their path to a possible Baku final at the end of May.
