Zidane wants Manchester City's Raheem Sterling - reports in UK
Various media sources in England ran with stories about Real Madrid's interest in bringing the winger along with Eden Hazard in summer overhaul.
The English press opened up on Saturday with the supposed interest of Real Madrid in Manchester City's Raheem Sterling. Both the Mirror and the Daily Star had splashes on their covers stating that Zinedine Zidane is targeting the 24-year old as part of the reconstruction of Los Blancos this summer along with another Premier League star, Eden Hazard.
Sterling effort from Zidane
The English tabloids believe that the 350 million euros that Real Madrid have laid aside for the rebuilding will be enough to undertake these two operations. The English winger, who joined the Premier League champions after shining for Liverpool, is an important player in Pep Guardiola's plans to dominate both domestically and in Europe. He signed in the summer of 2015 for around 65 million euros, and this season has already notched up 19 goals in the 39 games he has played.
Normally set up to terrorise defenses from the right, Sterling is also comfortable switching wings as well as offering something different in a central position. He has been capped 47 times for his country, with whom he has scored four goals since his 2012 debut.
His contract with City runs until July 2023, following his renewal last November and is one of the highest paid stars in the English top flight on somewhere in the region of 18 million euros a year. The idea of signing wide players is aligned to strong suggestions Gareth Bale will be exiting the club this summer.
Obviously with a new manager on board - one who would have been made promises in this area to return - and with statements needing to be made by club president, Florentino Pérez, we can expect to see several top named players linked to the European giants.
