Luis Enrique will miss Malta qualifer due to family issues
The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) confirmed the manager’s absence in the Ta' Qali National Stadium with Robert Moreno to take charge.
Luis Enrique will not take charge of Spain’s 2020 European Championship qualifier against Malta at the Ta' Qali National Stadium on Tuesday evening after the La Roja boss was given leave to travel back to Spain due to an urgent family matter.
The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) confirmed the manager’s absence in a statement earlier on Tuesday: “The RFEF confirms that our national team coach, Luis Enrique Martínez, will be absent from this evening’s game due to a family matter of the utmost urgency. We ask that his privacy be respected at this time.”
Enrique’s assistant coach, Robert Moreno, will take charge of the team against Malta. Moreno has been with Enrique since the current Spain boss was at Barcelona B, serving as his right-hand man at Roma, Celta, Barcelona and now with Spain.
Last season, when Enrique was taking a sabbatical, Moreno was assistant coach at Celta under Juan Carlos Unzué.
