Real Madrid eyeing up Liverpool starlet Rafael Camacho
The Portuguese media is reporting that the Liverpool player's father has been in the Spanish capital to speak with representatives from Real Madrid.
Real Madrid is always on the lookout for young talent to incorporate into La Fábrica (‘The Factory’, as its youth academy is commonly called) and one of the latest youngsters to catch the eye of the club’s scouts is Liverpool’s Portuguese midfielder player Rafael Camacho.
According to Portuguese daily A Bola, the player's father recently travelled to Madrid to discuss his possible move to the LaLiga club. The 18-year-old’s contract with Liverpool ends in June and he has not yet accepted an offer to renew, despite the fact that Reds coach Jurgen Klopp has given the green light to the operation.
Madrid-Camacho talks amid Benfica and Sporting offers
With the Portugal U-19 midfielder yet to agree a deal at Anfield, Primeira Liga rivals Benfica and Sporting have also reportedly been in contact with his agent to speak about the possibility of signing the youngster.
The player and his representatives have reportedly already been given offers from both Portuguese clubs but they wanted to wait to hear Real Madrid’s proposal.
Should Camacho join Los Blancos, he would likely be incorporated straight into Real Madrid Castilla (the ‘B’ team), which is currently well positioned to qualify for the playoffs for promotion to the second division.
Camacho career: from Sporting to Man City and onto Liverpool
Camacho emerged from the underage ranks of Sporting Portugal before being recruited by Manchester City at 13 years old. Three years ago he made the switch to Liverpool’s academy, making the jump up to the Reds U-23 setup this season.
This season he has been one of the standout performers in the UEFA Youth League, scoring four goals in six games.
The Portuguese teenager has also scored eight goals in 14 games in the Premier League 2, where he has been named one of nine candidates for the Player of the Season award.
