The former Barça captain has retired from the playing side and now embarks on a coaching career that, he hopes, leads him to the Camp Nou bench.

Xavi targets Barcelona job after stint in Qatari management

Barcelona's former captain Xavi Hernández revealed during an interview in Tehran that the manager's position at the Catalan giants is what he is targeting as he sets off on a career in management.

Xavi aims for Barça manager

After hanging up his boots, the Spaniard is taking the helm of his current club Al Sadd as he looks to build up managerial experience. But the midfielder is clear about his desired progression.

"The idea is to start as manager in Qatar, where there is not as much pressure, in order to test me and gain experience. And then the objective is to return to Europe, principally to Barça," said the 39-year old.

"I've had a very long career, I'm relaxed and I have an objective of being a coach," he continued. "I imagine that having a target after you finish such a wonderful period, also makes everything seem easier."
