Manchester City target Rodri: "I can't guarantee anything about my future..."
The Atlético de Madrid midfielder, who is with the Spain squad, told Deportes Cuatro: "I've asked the club to give me space and to remain calm. I'm under contract".
Guardiola looking to bolster City's midfield
It's the first time that Rodrigo Hernández has said anything about his future since the season ended while there has been no end of speculation about the chances of him remaining at Atlético. Rodri is under contract until 2023 and his buy-out is 70 million euros. He has been linked to Manchester City as an option for Pep Guardiola, who is expected to rejuvenate his midfield this summer. Regular choice for the defensive midfield role at City Fernandinho turned 34 last month and has struggled with injuries during the past two seasons. Ilkay Gundogan has a year to run on his current contract and has been linked with a move to Serie A. For the defensive midfield position, Guardiola is looking towards the long-term and wants a player who is a similar age as the rest of his squad - Rodri, who turns 23 this month, fits the bill. Atleti have their eyes on Juventus' Rodrigo Bentancur to fill the vacancy if they cannot persuade Rodri to stay.
