It's official. As per reports earlier this week, Bayern Munich have confirmed that they will not activate the purchase option that they had for Real Madrid's James Rodríguez

James returns to Real Madrid

As part of the two-year loan agreement between the Spanish and German clubs, there was a stipulation that if Bayern wanted to take advantage of the purchase agreement then they would have to confirm this before 15 June 2019. The option allowed them to purchase the Colombian outright for 42 million euros, of which they had already laid down 13 million euros.

On Wednesday, the Bundesliga giants issued a statement confirming the departure of the Colombian.

"On behalf of the club, I say thank you to James for two successful years. He has been an important part of our success over the last two seasons. We wish James all the best for the future!" said Karl-Heinz. Rummenigge, general director of the club.

The player also sent his thanks to the club.

"I am very grateful to the club & the fans, who always showed us tremendous support. It's been an unforgettable two years in Munich & I have always felt happy here. I will treasure all the memories I have of my time here & I wish #FCBayern all the best for the future!"

James Rodriguez made 67 appearances for Bayern, scoring 15 goals and providing 20 assists. He collected a German league title and the DFL Supercup in 2018 and 2019 as well as the DFB Cup in 2019.

James, who is now with the Colombian national team for the Copa América, will return to Real Madrid after his two year loan spell. His aim is to start pre-season with the squad in an attempt to convince Zinedine Zidane that he can be a useful additional to the new project. The expectation, however, is for the midfielder to be showcased this summer in an attempt to add further revenue to the rebuild that is already in motion.
