Ferland Mendy is expected to be unveiled as a Real Madrid player on Wednesday 12 June, becoming the fourth signing of Florentino Pérez’s Galáctico 3.0 project following the arrivals of Éder Militão, Luka Jovic and Eden Hazard, whose arrival was announced last Friday for a fee in excess of 100 million euros.

Mendy, currently on international duty with France, will cost Madrid a further 48 million euros up front before add-ons come into play, which will take the hole in Real’s bank account so far this summer to over 250 million euros.

However, there is still the matter of Mendy’s second medical: the 24-year-old was examined by Real’s medical staff on 4 June and there were concerns then about a lingering hip injury. Mendy was a second-half substitute during France’s 2-0 European Championship 2020 qualifying defeat against Turkey on Saturday and sources close to the player have sustained that the injury is nothing serious, something that will be minutely examined on Wednesday when Mendy is due to arrive in Madrid for his second medical.

It remains to be seen if Mendy will take part in France’s qualifier against Andorra on Tuesday but his imminent arrival will open the door for Sergio Reguilón to leave the Bernabñeu, most likely on loan. The Castilla graduate displaced Marcelo at left back last season under the brief reign of Santiago Solari but has dropped back down the pecking order under Zinedine Zidane, who re-installed the Brazilian as one of his first points of order after returning to the fold in March.
