Los Angeles Galaxy's path through the US Open Cup ended yesterday after a dramatic 4-0 loss to Portland Timbers, team that got its ticket into the quarterfinal round of the tournament.

The Californian team faced this match without its star and captain Zlatan Ibrahimovic who was left out by technical decision, Jona dos Santos and Uriel Antuna who are with Mexico National team at the Gold Cup.

Names that surely Barros Schelloto's side could have used against the Timbers, in a tournament that resists itself for the LA team, winning it in the 2001 and 2005 editions, but since then Galaxy has been far from the cup as the closest they got was the final in the 2006 edition, where they fell 3-1 against Chicago Fire.

Portland Timbers is waiting for a rival in the best eight stage, which will be defined with the winner between Los Angeles FC and San Jose Earthquakes match.

US Cup titles record

Portland will keep fighting for the US Open Cup as they seek to become the highest winner in the history of the tournament, now they are tied with four cups (2009, 2010, 2011 and 2014) with Chicago Fire both are the current squads with more titles since it was founded back in 1914.
