The United States Women's national team got their revenge in the last group stage match of the 2019 World Cup against Sweden, while also setting a new record, something the US girls have been doing since the start of the tournament.

The United States kileld any tension from the build-up, focused on the 2016 Olympic loss to Sweden, by scoring the first goal of the night in less than three minutes into the game.

The American side proved their value and quality by stifling the Swedish attack and showing that their Olympic loss was, and will now remain, in the past, long forgotten. Jill Ellis' squad improvement since that game has been huge.

Record Breaking

Tobin Heath gave the USWNT a second goal, which turned out to be more than just a goal. With that they broke the Women's World Cup group stage scoring record, one which belonged to Norway who scored 17 in 1995.

The US girls finished top of Group F with a record-breaking 18 goals, and now face Spain in the round of 16. Don't be surprised if more records fall.
