Real Madrid: Mendy "likes" tweet calling for Lucas to be deported
The Bernabéu's latest signing explained that he had not fully understood the term and promised to learn Spanish as quickly as possible to avoid a repeat.
Real Madrid’s Ferland Mendy has learned the dangers of social media in Spain after accidentally adding his approval to a tweet calling for his new teammate Lucas Vázquez to be deported.
A Real Madrid fan, for reasons unknown, had sent the message to Mendy’s personal Twitter account and the Frenchman unwittingly “liked” the idea of escorting winger Vázquez to the nearest border. Mendy offered a swift apology, explaining that he hadn’t understood what the term meant and promising to learn Spanish “so that this doesn’t happen again.”
Mendy and Marcelo enjoying a chuckle
Mendy showed that he has a sense of humour during his presentation when asked about his competition with Marcelo for the left back spot, replying: “Well, we’ve never seen each other with our shirts off so we’ll have to see.” Marcelo, perhaps rising to the joke, posted a picture a few days later showing off an enviable six pack after shedding a few kilos while on holiday ahead of the new season.
Real Madrid paid 48 million euros for the France international, who was named in Ligue 1’s ideal XI in each of the past two seasons.
