Wayne Rooney on leave as DC crash to Atlanta defeat
DC United coach, Ben Olsen gave Rooney permission to visit his family in England and missed the match against Atlanta United which the Washington side lost.
In the 2-0 defeat to Atlanta United, DC United had a significant absentee - captain Wayne Rooney was not in the squad as he had been granted permission by coach Ben Olsen to take time off.
Rooney didn't make the trip to Atlanta to face the Five Stripes, as he had permission to visit his family in England While he is back home, Ronney will also use the time to rest and recover for the second part of the season. He is due to report back to work after his return on Tuesday.
Olsen said the Englishman needed break after experiencing some discomfort during the team's previous game against Cincinnati which the Washington side won 4-1 with Rooney contributing one of the goals. "There are some signs of wear and tear, some little niggling things, it's just time to give him a mental and physical break. It's that simple. It's not something we want to push right now," mentioned Olsen prior to the game.
