Atlético Madrid have managed to successfully appeal Diego Costa's International Champions Cup ban for his sending off against Real Madrid on 27 July.

Atlético’s persistence over Diego Costa’s International Champions Cup (ICC) suspension has paid off, as the striker has finally been given the clear to play in their fixture against Juventus in Sweden on Saturday.

After Costa was sent off following a heated incident with Real Madrid’s Dani Carvajal during the ICC Madrid derby in New York on 27 July, the Spaniard was subsequently handed a sanction for the game against the Serie A Champions.

Atlético appealed the decision as they had previously done with Marcos Llorente (who was cleared to play against Real Madrid after he had been red-carded in the previous fixture), but the initial answer from the ICC was negative.

However, after a second appeal, the club has managed to convince the ICC to allow Costa to play against El Bianconeri – a game that has a bit of extra spice to it over the bad blood that emerged between the clubs as a result of their Champions League quarter final meeting last season.

Following the successful appeal, Simeone will likely give Costa some game time as he looks to get his players in shape for the start of the LaLiga season next weekend.

However, the Spanish striker will miss Atlético’s opening game against Getafe due to an eight-match suspension he received last season for verbally abusing the referee in Atlético’s clash with Barcelona in early April.
