Higuaín on Ronaldo reunion: He's a more mature person now, a different player

More than six years since the pair last shared a dressing room at Real Madrid, Higuaín and Ronaldo have been reunited under Maurizio Sarri at Juventus.

Critiano Ronaldo and Gonzalo Higauín.

Gonzalo Higuaín has spoken of the joy of reuniting with Cristiano Ronaldo and explained that he has found the Portuguese star to be a more mature person than he was when the pair worked together at Real Madrid.

Higuaín and Ronaldo shared a dressing room at the Bernabéu for four seasons until the former left for Napoli in July, 2013, before joining Juventus in 2016.

The Argentine happened to be on loan at AC Milan and later Chelsea during Ronaldo’s first year at the Turin club last season. But the pair were reunited this season following Higuain's return to the Juventus Stadium in the summer, and have formed a so-far-successful strike partnership under new coach Maurizio Sarri.

Asked during an interview on Fox News about his reunion with Ronaldo, Higuaín said: “Many years have passed since I played with him in Spain. Now I have found a different player, a more mature person, with a family. I’m happy to play with him again."

Higuaín on possibility of River Plate return

The 31-year-old also spoke about the club where his career began, River Plate, and didn’t rule out the possibility of a return to Argentinean football to see out the twilight years of his career.

"I have this year and next year left [at Juventus]. I never close the door to anything. [At River] there is a great coach and several team mates of mine who I have a great affection for,” he said.

“The people of River were always spectacular with me. But hey, right now I’m trying to think in the present and enjoy my time here in Italian football.”
