The “complete” World Cup breakout star told he’ll play for Real Madrid
France legend Olivier Giroud was full of praise for Morocco’s Ayoub Bouaddi after his World Cup performance against Brazil, comparing him to Sergio Busquets and Patrick Vieira.

Ayoub Bouaddi of Morocco was one of the biggest breakout stars of the opening round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The 18-year-old midfielder delivered a standout performance against Brazil, earning widespread praise across social media. His Lille teammate Olivier Giroud, who has developed a close relationship with the teenager, believes Bouaddi has everything it takes to reach Real Madrid, provided he sharpens one part of his game.
Giroud: “He’ll play for Real Madrid”
Speaking to the BBC, Giroud joked that Bouaddi’s finishing is still the subject of plenty of teasing inside the Lille locker room.

“We’ve been teasing him a lot about his finishing,” Giroud said with a smile. “If he’s got that, he’ll be playing for Real Madrid next year.
“I’ve been amazed by his maturity. Some friends say he’s a mix of Patrick Vieira and Sergio Busquets. I think it’s going to be tough to keep him at Lille. He’s a complete player.”
PSG and Real Madrid linked with teenage sensation
Bouaddi has recently been linked with several of Europe’s biggest clubs.
Paris Saint-Germain is reportedly among the teams showing the strongest interest in signing the midfielder, and French media have suggested the Champions League winner could make an offer for the Lille star. Madrid has also been credited with interest as the Spanish giant looks to strengthen its midfield ahead of the next transfer window.

Bouaddi focused on the World Cup
After his eye-catching display against Brazil, Bouaddi was asked about the growing speculation surrounding his future.
“I’m really happy to know that some clubs are interested in me,” he said. “But right now, my only focus is the World Cup. We’re going to give everything we have to achieve the best possible result in this tournament.”
