Real Madrid have released a statement rejecting claims that Thibaut Courtois was diagnosed with symptoms of anxiety after he was taken off at half-time against Club Brugge in the Champions League on Tuesday.

The official line from the club was that he suffered stomach issues and was dizzy. The Belgian had to be driven home after the game by his father and they have released a statement on Friday to quell rumours that the player was suffering from anxiety. Their statement read:

Real Madrid want to state the following:

1. At no point was our player diagnosed with symptoms of anxiety and this information is absolutely false.

2. Thibaut Courtois was diagnosed with acute gastroenteritis and dehydration along with an imbalance of electrolytes and he couldn't finish the game on Tuesday against Brugges.

Courtois hasn't trained since and was missing again on Friday with the Granada game on Saturday. Alphonse Areola replaced the Belgian against Brugge and it appears he might have to deputise again if Zidane's number one does not recover in time to make the squad for the weekend game.
