Claudio Ranieri appointed new Sampdoria head coach

The veteran Italian takes over at his twentieth managerial appointment after the 'blucerchiati' sacked Eusebio Di Francesco on October 8th.

Update:
Claudio Ranieri appointed new Sampdoria head coach

Veteran manager Claudio Ranieri who has overseen the likes of Chelsea, AS Roma, Valencia as well as famously steering Leicester City to a Premier League win in 2016 has been appointed as the new UC Sampdoria first team coach.

Ranieri replaces outgoing Eusebio di Francesco, who was sacked on Monday with the Genoa based side rock-bottom of Serie A after six defeats in seven matches.

The confirmation as Sampdoria manager heralds Ranieri's twentieth managerial appointment and his ninth spell with a Serie A club.

Di Francesco's final match in charge last weekend saw Samp fall to yet another defeat losing 2-0 away to Hellas Verona and the side from Genoa now lie two points adrift at the bottom of the Serie A table, having won just one league game in the 2019-20 campaign to date.

Ranieri's first game in charge of Sampdoria will see the 67 year-old face one of how former sides when AS Roma visit the Stadio Luigi Ferraris on Sunday, 20 October.
