Bayern Munich part company with Niko Kovac

The Bundesliga side announced the decision to end their relationship with the Croatian manager via their social media channels on Sunday night.

Bayern Munich have decided to terminate the services of Croatian first team coach Niko Kovac with the heavy 5-1 defeat away to Eintracht Frankfurt the final straw.

The 48-year-old coach oversaw this morning's training session as the side prepare for the Champions League tie against Olympiakos on Wednesday and the initial message emerging from the Bayern camp was that the plan was to retain faith with the Croatian. Subsequent conversations between Kovac and the Bayern board took a u-turn with local media outlet Bild initially reporting news of the Kovac sacking before the official confirmation on Sunday evening.

Hansi Flick, the assistant coach at Bayern, will oversee the side for the two next games (vs Olympiakos in the Champions League and Dortmund in the Bundesliga) with early rumours positioning former Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri as favourite to replace the outgoing Croatian.
