Retirement:

"I'll play until I lose that fire in my belly. As long as I feel good, I'll look to keep going and get as much out of my career as I possibly can. I look after myself well and I'm hopeful of being in the right shape for a good few years yet."

Going into coaching:

"I can't see myself doing anything that isn't related to football. I'd like to stay in the game, because it's where I've picked up the greatest expertise. I'd like to be able to pass that on to others. So I'm not ruling out coaching; I certainly expect to be connected to football in some way."

Favourite Champions League win:

"My Champions League medals are like my children; it's impossible to say which one I love more."

Zinedine Zidane:

"We're delighted that he's the captain of this ship, because he knows us better than anyone and is best placed to get the best out of us."

Header in Lisbon:

"After such a drought without winning the trophy, it changed the way we saw the Champions League at Real Madrid. 93rd minute, in Lisbon... It was the stand-out moment of recent years, not just for me but for Real Madrid as a whole. We really benefited from it; it changed the dynamic and allowed us to go on and win the competition three times in a row."

Ballon d'Or for Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi:

"They could create a Ballon d'Or just for those two [and award it to one or the other] depending on results, and another for the rest. It would be best for football [laughs]."

Career:

"I feel proud of it. At the end of the day, I've had to work hard for everything I've achieved. Behind the scenes, there's a lot of work, sacrifice, dedication and perseverance. Because it's not just about getting there, but staying there. There is a lot that people don't see; success doesn't come by chance."
