Silva: "Real Madrid called me year after year but I didn't go"
David Silva will leave Manchester City at the end of the season and the club have made a documentary about his career from Gran Canaria to Manchester.
David Silva is into his last few months at Manchester City. The creative attacking midfielder's contract expires in June and he has said he would like a change of scenery once his deal is finished. Before his final farewell, the club have released a documentary about the player entitled 'Made in Gran Canaria'.
The Spanish World Cup winner went to trials in Valdebebas but his father made it clear he wasn't leaving home yet because he said he was too young. He told the clubs interested in him that they could monitor him from the Canary Islands if they wanted. They agreed he would return the following year but that was the end of Silva's link to Madrid.
“After that I didn’t go again [to mainland Spain]," said Silva. "They’d call me year after year, but I didn’t go. The following year I went back to my town where I played until I was 14.”
The documentary follows the rise of Silva. He moved to Valencia when he was a teenager and ended up playing 125 times for Spain winning every trophy possible.
Silva has played 419 times for City and scored 74 goals with 137 assists. He has been linked with a move to the MLS and David Beckham's new Inter Miami team.
