Before playing against Queretaro in the fifth week of the current semester, America had a loss and a victory and played their third game in one week. Queretaro hadn’t lost since the first game of the Clausura 2020 but tonight they couldn’t beat the team that is coached by Miguel Herrera.

For the fifth game in a row Herrera had to alternate his lineup due to injuries or players being suspended. In the first five minutes of the game America’s captain, Paul Aguilar found Giovani dos Santos who crossed the ball and Henry Martin just missed the target.

The visiting team scored the first goal of the game at the 27th minute when Richard Sanchez passed the ball to Andres Ibargüen who shot the ball in mid air and Queretaro’s goalie just saw the ball hitting the net.

The last play of the first half was a corner kick from Queretaro. America’s goalkeeper, Guillermo Ochoa missed the ball and the home striker, Nahuelpan header the ball to tie the game. In the second half both teams were more cautious with the game tied 1-1.

It was not until the 73rd minute that Andres Ibargüen scored his second goal of the game that gave America the victory 2-1 to sum three more points. The play was a bit messy from Sebastian Cordova but the Colombian winger managed to rescue the ball and scored the second one of the game.

With this victory America has 10 points and is in third place while Queretaro has one less point and is in fifth place. Miguel Herrera’s team will host Atlas next Saturday and Queretaro will visit Necaxa.
