Antuna will become an icon for Chivas according to manager
Luis Fernando Tena, who is managing Chivas this semester, defended their new signing after he had a poor night against Cruz Azul, missing a number of clear chances.
Uriel Antuna had possibly the worst game of his career on Sunday against Cruz Azul and he is being held responsible for Chivas' 2-1 loss at the Akron stadium. The ex-Galaxy player had three clear goal-scoring chances and missed them all.
Cruz Azul’s goalkeeper, Jesus Corona had a remarkable night, stopping all three of Antuna's opportunities and the fans at the stadium started booing Antuna at the end of the match. This was Chivas' second loss in a row and Uriel Antuna, their most expensive player this season, has not performed well in his first 6 games.
Chivas spent heavily to bring in Antuna
Chivas paid Manchester City $12M (€11M) to buy Antuna who at the end of the game started asking for forgiveness from the fans after missing the three clear goals. And head coach, Luis Fernando Tena, was quick to come to his defense to try to boost his morale.
“The best way to support him after a night like that is by talking to him, give him positive feedback and keep him in the starting lineup. He will play because he is a great player. Yes he missed but he was there in the right moment at the right time. He is a little depressed but he will start next week without a doubt.”
Tena also said that it takes time for a player to adapt and maybe he feels the pressure of being the most expensive signing this semester but he will manage the situation better with time, “it is normal that he wants to show the club and the fans why we paid so much money for him. He plays hard in games and during practice too so I am sure he will end up being an idol for Chivas because he is a great player.”
