Hérculez Gómez: "Giovanni Reyna should be a starter for the USMNT"
The ex-Los Angeles Galaxy player said that the United States youngster from Borussia Dortmund should be called up to the national team and be a starter.
Giovanni Reyna is having a great season with Borussia Dortmund and in recent times he has been a key player for the team in important games. The 17-year-old gave the assist to Erling Haaland who scored the winning goal for Dortmund against PSG in the round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League.
Reyna came on as a substitute in the second half of that game and became the youngest player in the history of the United States to play in the Champions League. After showing what he can do on the field, Reyna should be called up to the US national team and be a starter, says the former LA Galaxy player Hérculez Gómez, especially now that Paul Arriola is injured.
"Gio is a playmaker and if he keeps improving as a player Gregg Berhalter needs to call him up to the national team. A player like that needs to be a starter because of his talent. Times have changed and Berhalter needs to see what this wonderkid can do for him. I think it would make the USMNT better," Gómez said in an interview with ESPN.

Gómez also talked about the possible midfield the United States men's national team could have in qualification for the 2022 FIFA World Cup: "I think that the fans would love to see Tyler Adams, Christian Pulisic and Weston McKennie together in the midfield."
The only problem is that all those players are not starters at their clubs, unlike Reyna, who has become a key man for Dortmund in the last few games.
