Real Madrid continued preparations ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League last 16 meeting with Manchester City during Monday’s training session at their Valdebebas training base.

Coach Zinedine Zidane had 22 players at his disposal for the first session of the biggest week of the season, which sees his side face City on Wednesday and Barcelona on Sunday, both of which will be played at the Bernabéu.

Mariano has returned to training with the group, while Eden Hazard, who is set for another long spell on the side lines after picking up an ankle injury this weekend, and Marco Asensio worked alone on their respective recoveries. Asensio has not played since the pre-season due to an ACL injury.

Rodrygo out for Barcelona

Rodrygo was also absent from Monday’s session. The young Brazilian played for Castilla at the weekend, where he was sent off for his provocative goal celebration in the 88th minute after recieving a second yellow card.

His expulsion has ruled him out of Sunday’s Clásico as well as Castilla’s next game against Pontevedra scheduled for the same day.

Madrid will hold their last session ahead of the City clash on Tuesday at 11:00 (CET) local time, after which Zidane will give his pre-match press conference at around 13:00.
