Necaxa beat America in Week 8 of Clausura 2020

Necaxa came, saw and conquered the Aztec stadium on Saturday night when they defeated a 9-man Club America 3-0 with two goals from Mauro Quiroga.

Before Week 8 of Clausura 2020, Club America topped the table. Come Friday night however, Cruz Azul beat Monarcas to knock them off the summit. The capital side welcomed Necaxa knowing that they all they needed was a draw to retake the top of the table.

Things didn’t start well for Miguel Herrera's team as centre-back Bruno Valdez was sent off on 15 minutes for a foul on Maximiliano Salas leaving America on 10 men.

Seven minutes later, Mauro Quiroga got on the end of a Jairo Gonzalez to put the visitors ahead with a great finish past Guillermo Ochoa.

With a man extra, Necaxa felt and looked the better team. They continued to push forward and on 27 minutes, Mauro Quiroga doubled the lead with his second of the game.

Things went from bad to worst for America when, on 55 minutes, Santiago Caceres was sent off in an incident reviewed by VAR for kicking an opponent. The home team started the second half trailing by two goals and with a two-man disadvantage.

Necaxa's Juan Delgado scored the third with four minutes left to play as it ended 0-3 on a day to forget for America.

The result lifts Necaxa up to the 8th place on 11 points from 8 games. America meanwhile drop to second place but level on 16 points with new leaders Cruz Azul.
