International Women's Day will be held on 8 March and is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. To celebrate this important day, the Liga MX has decided that before each game in week nine of the Clausura 2020 they will promote the fight against gender violence.

On Friday, Queretaro and Toluca played the first game of the matchday and before kick-off we saw a group of girls dressed the same as the players lined up in the middle of the pitch. They also displayed a message saying: “No more violence against the opposite gender.”

Five women from different social, economic, cultural and political backgrounds also walked to the middle of the field before the game and one of them gave a few words to celebrate International Women’s Day.

“Being a woman means a lot. We are strong, smart, caring, capable, inspiring, responsible, unique, fighters and free,” she said. The same protocol occurred in the following games and will continue on Sunday as well.
