Renato Ibarra is released from jail as wife changes story
The Ecuadorian midfielder will not be charged with attempted femicide and on Thursday night he was released from jail after his wife decided to drop the charges.
Renato Ibarra was released from jail on Thursday night, following his arrest on 5 March, after his wife Lucely Chala dropped the charges against him for domestic violence, abortion and attempted femicide. The same day he was released Club America released a statement notifying that Ibarra will no longer be a part of their team after this incident.
During the first days of trial, Lucely Chala had declared that Ibarra and another four family members had physically abused her on Thursday, 5 March at their residence and a video was presented in court showing what happened that day.
Yesterday Chala declared that she didn’t remember saying that she was physically abused by Renato Ibarra and the other four family members so the judge had to drop the case and the soccer player was released from jail.
On Thursday journalist Carlos Jimenez, who has been following the case since the first day, tweeted a video where Lucely Chala said that she was never physically abused by Ibarra, “I don’t remember declaring that. My husband and I started arguing that day while we were in our bedroom and his family members and my sister Karen got involved. Things got out of hand because we started shoving and yelling at each other. When that was happening I turned around to protect my baby since I am pregnant and then I didn’t see anything,” said Chala.
