Liga MX confirms the 10th week of the Clausura 2020 will be played behind closed doors
Week 10 started yesterday with Tijuana defeating Pachuca 3-2, but the league announced today the rest of the games will be played behind closed doors.
The 10th week of the Clausura 2020 started on Friday in Tijuana, with the home team defeating Pachuca 3-2, and that game was played with fans in the stands. After analysing the situation across the world and the cancellation of many live sports events due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Liga MX announced earlier today that the rest of the games this weekend are going to be played behind closed doors.
For the entire week, the president of the Liga MX, Enrique Bonilla, said that there was no risk in having the games open to the public this weekend. However, the coronavirus is spreading quickly in neighbouring country he United States, and before the games started on Saturday the league announced that no supporters should be allowed inside the stadiums across the country.
The home games this weekend in Mexico were going to be held in the Alfonso Lastra, Universitario, Nou Camp, AKRON, Nemesio Diez, TSM and Azteca but all of these stadiums will be closed to the public.
It was also confirmed that the women’s and youth leagues would be played behind closed doors to prevent the coronavirus from spreading in Mexico. Before the announcement was made on Saturday, the game between Cruz Azul and Pumas in the women’s league was the last match that was open to the public.
