Each day more live sports and other events around the world are being postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. Most leagues in Europe including Serie A and LaLiga have been canceled until further notice.

Last Friday night the Liga MX decided to play the 10th week of the campaign behind closed doors and by Sunday night it had been decided that all games scheduled for this weekend were going to be postponed. Mexico has so far been spared the worst of the pandemic leading to the decision to cancel live sports and certain other events but as yet not to take the next step of closing the country's borders.

Zapopan and Mexico City Open

The Women’s Tennis Association decided to cancel the 2020 Zapopan Open because many airports around the world are being closed to prevent the pandemic from spreading further. The United States is not allowing flights from Europe to enter the country so the International Tennis Federation also decided to cancel the Mexico City Open.

Mexico’s national team canceled their friendlies

Mexico had scheduled two friendlies in the United States. The first game was against Greece in Charlotte and the second one against Czech Republic in Dallas. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic both games were canceled because no flights from Europe can enter the United States.

Club friendlies in the United States

For the same reasons the friendlies scheduled between Chivas and Leon in San Jose, California and Monterrey and Pachuca have also been postponed. The former is now scheduled to be played on 10 October while the latter has yet to be resceduled and will in all likelihood be canceled under the circumstances.

Concacaf Champions League

The most important club tournament in Concacaf has been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. The quarterfinal two-leg tie between LAFC and Cruz Azul was postponed and Concacaf has not yet announced when they are going to face each other.

Liga MX

Seven out of the nine week 10 fixtures of the Clausura 2020 were played behind closed doors last weekend due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Ascenso MX and the women’s league were also staged without spectators. On Sunday afternoon the league announced that all three competitions were going to be postponed until further notice.
