Miguel Herrera: “Managing Club América is more demanding than Mexico’s national team”

Miguel Herrera is one of the few head coaches to have been in charge of both the Mexican national side and Club América, one of the biggest teams in Mexico. And when he was asked which job has been the toughest in his coaching career, he didn’t hesitate with his answer: Club América.

Herra was interviewed by UNANIMO Deportes and admitted that he feels huge pressure as the head coach of América because if you win you are the best manager in the country, but if you lose one game you have to resign. That's the basis for his belief that it is more demanding to manage América than the Mexican national side.

Club América more pressured than Mexico job

I think that it is more difficult to be the head coach of Club América because everyone in Mexico supports the national team so if you win the entire country loves you but if you lose then they hate you, so when you take the job you know what you are signing up for. With América things are completely different..”

“..See América is one of the most important teams in Mexico so if you win half of the country adores you but if you lose then everyone makes fun of you. That is why the job at América is very demanding and the daily pressure is huge,” Herrera explained during the interview.

Having said that Miguel Herrera admitted to being very happy as the manager of Club América, where his number one priority is to make the fans happy, “it is simple with this club you have to win every weekend, I understand the chair I am sitting on and that is why I try to give the fans the results they demand.”
