Man City express "heartfelt sympathy" over news

“The Manchester City family are devastated to report the death today of Pep’s mother Dolors Sala Carrió in Manresa, Barcelona after contracting Corona Virus,” the club said in a tweet on Monday afternoon. “She was 82-years-old.”

Catalonia among Spain's worst-hit regions

Spain has been one of the world's worst-affected countries in the coronavirus crisis, with just over 13,000 people dying from Covid-19 - a death toll second only to Italy.

Catalonia, the northeastern region in which Barcelona is located, has been among the areas in Spain most hit by the pandemic, registering just under 27,000 of the country's 135,000 cases. In all, nearly 3,000 people have died in Catalonia.

Guardiola closely involved with battle against Covid-19

Guardiola has been heavily involved in the fight against the coronavirus. Two weeks ago, he donated one million euros to the Fundación Ángel Soler Daniel in Barcelona, to help provide local hospitals with medical equipment and supplies.

The 49-year-old has also supported projects conducting research into potential drugs and vaccines against the virus.
