Mexico Starting lineup vs England: Javier Aguirre’s XI for the round of 16 game
Mexico is getting ready for one of the biggest matches in their history and Javier Aguirre has his work cut out picking an XI for the game against England.

Mexico are looking for a return trip to the quarterfinals of the World Cup forty years since their last appearance in the final eight. It’s a massive match from Mexico City and Javier Agruirre’s side are coming into this match brimming with confidence.
Round 16 match on home soil
The co-hosts of the tournament blazed through the group stages, going a perfect three for three. Not only did they win all of their matches, but they kept clean sheets through the entire 270 minutes of the first three matches.
In the round of 32, it was more of the same. Mexico took on Ecuador and beat them 2-0, keeping another clean sheet joining Spain as the only teams in the tournament that have kept clean sheets through the first four matches.
Now they are on to the round of 16, and they have a massive match up with England. It’s power against power, pace against pace, and it promises to be a memorable match from the Estadio Ciudad de Mexico.
Return trip to quarters in store?
Aguirre has a full deck of cards to play with tonight, with no one on the injury report. He has tinkered with the XI a bit, but against England he is going to come out with his strongest side.

The XI isn’t confirmed yet, but you would think he would go with a similar eleven that played against Ecuador in the last match. Rangel will be in goal, with Sanchez, Montes, Vasquez and Gallardo in the back. In the middle it’s Mora, Lira and Romo with Alvarado, Jimenez and Quiñones up top.
Mexico have been to the quarterfinals twice before. That is as far as they have reached in the World Cup, and on both of those occasions (1970 and 1986) the World Cup was hosted in Mexico. If they beat England tonight, they will be heading back to the quarterfinals.
