Víctor Font, one of the pre-candidates for the presidency of FC Barcelona and leader of the Sí al Futur platform, penned an open letter to the media in which he slammed the recent governance at the club under the Bartomeu regime. He maintains that the Catalan club is both "economically and morally bankrupt" and requests that the vote on Camp Nou expansion plans (Espai Barça) is put on hold but drew the line short at calling for immediate elections.

Resignation

Earlier this week, Barcelona's board saw six resignations as Emili Rousaud and Enrique Tombas, the two vice-presidents questioned by Josep Maria Bartomeu handed in their resignations letter along with directors Silvio Elias, Maria Teixidor, Josep Pont and secretary of the board Jordi Clasamiglia.

The motive for the resignation are because of poor management of the crisis at Barcelona and the issue regarding social media accounts and the future after coronavirus.

I3 Ventures investigation

The board took another bodyblow over the weekend with Catalan daily Sport revealing early findings by audit company PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PWC)  who were commissioned by FC Barcelona to investigate the contract with social media agency I3 Ventures, reports from Catalan daily Sport paint a grey picture of the deal.

The PWC briefing ascertains that the social media agency I3 Ventures fee was “over market value” and concluded that a reasonable fee for work of this nature would cost between 120,000 to 150,000 euro, which falls short of the 980,000 paid by the Catalan club.

Font conclusion

In his open letter Font alluded to recent scandals which have tainted the reputation of the club and pleaded: "We need to start from zero. Despite sporting success in a wide number of disciplines, a lack of transparency and a hunger to generate more revenue than the rest but spend more than the rest with last minute deals to balance the books is an unsustainable model".

Font alluded to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic as his reasoning for not demanding immediate elections but closed his letter stating that he demands a full briefing of the situation from Bartomeu and demands a board of directors that are as creative, daring and as successful as Johan Cruyff was in his days wearing the iconic navy and claret shirt.
