NBA sell team face masks to raise money for hunger relief

With the sole purpose to join the fight against the coronavirus pandemic, the NBA and WNBA released a line of face masks decorated with team logos to raise money for hunger relief organizations. The face masks are made in America by FOCO and Industry Rag, are available on NBAStore.com and WNBAStore.com and come in adult and youth sizes.

The masks are on sale in packs of three for 24.99 dollars or if you want just one then the price drops to $14.99. All proceeds will be donated to Feeding America and Second Harvest Canada. “As a global community, we can all play a role in reducing the impact of the coronavirus pandemic by following the CDC’s recommendation to cover our nose and mouth while in public,” said Kathy Behrens, NBA President, Social Responsibility and Player Programs.

Feeding America is the largest hunger-relief non-profit in the country, providing meals to more than 40 million people each year via a network of 200 food banks and 60,000 food pantries and meal programs.

Second Harvest is the largest food rescue organization in Canada, capturing an excess of food before it ends up in landfills, resulting in long term environmental issues.

While the masks allow for breathability, the NBA Store warns that it’s not a medical device and recommends that healthcare professionals not use this product in a healthcare/clinical environment. A cloth face mask will not protect you from getting the virus.

“CDC is additionally advising the use of simple cloth face coverings to slow the spread of the virus and help people who may have the virus and do not know it from transmitting it to others.”
