According to the latest figures published by Johns Hopkins University, 2,310,572 cases have been detected worldwide, with 158,691 deaths and 590,682 people now recovered.
In Nigeria, there have been 493 cases, with 17 deaths and 159 people recovering from the virus.

340 Americans evacuated from Nigeria
Around 340 American citizens were evacuated from Nigeria and returned home to the United States on Saturday as the coronavirus pandemic gathers pace around the world.
According to the US Mission in Nigeria, the evacuees left on a chartered Omni Air International flight from Murtala Muhammed International Airport, bound for Dulles Airport, Washington.
While the US remains closed to all international flights, government is allowing oversees countries to evacuate their nationals by air. Since the end of January, more than 60,000 US citizens have been repatriated from over 100 countries worldwide.
Spain passes 20,000 deaths
The European death toll continues to rise and according to the Johns Hopkins University, Spain has reached another unwanted, but expected, milestone.
The official number of deaths due to Covid-19 in the country has surpassed 20,000, as the number of confirmed cases closes in on 200,000.
Only the USA (nearly 38,000) and Italy (23,000) have reported more at this point.

The Nigerian president’s chief of staff, Abba Kyari, has died after contracting coronavirus, it has been announced.
“The Presidency regrets to announce the passage of the Chief of Staff to the President, Mallam Abba Kyari,” presidential spokesperson Garba Shehu tweeted early on Saturday.
"The deceased had tested positive to the ravaging COVID-19, and had been receiving treatment. But he died on Friday, April 17, 2020."
