Real Madrid: Achraf's agent hints at Dortmund stay

"Achraf is the best in the world in his position, along with Alexander-Arnold," the player's agent said, adding that the in-demand defender could remain at Dortmund.

Real Madrid are eager to bring Achraf Hakimi back to the Bernabéu when his loan spell at Borussia Dortmund comes to an end but the Morocco international wants guarantees of playing time that Zinedine Zidane won't be able to provide as long as Dani Carvajal remains the undisputed starting right back under the Frenchman.

Achraf a firm favourite at Dortmund

Achraf, 21, has become a firm favourite with fans and the coaching staff at Dortmund, where he has carved out his place in the starting XI under Lucien Favre. The defender was named the best newcomer in the Bundesliga in September and October of his debut campaign in 2018-19 when he scored three goals and provided seven assists across 2,349 minutes. This season, before the coronavirus brought the season to a halt, Achraf has knocked in seven goals and teed up 10 for his teammates over 2,900 minutes - a remarkable return for a full back.

Not in vain has Achraf's agent, Alejandro Camaño, descibed his client as the best right back in the world. Speaking to Sky Sports in Germany, Camaño said that there had been interest in the defender from across Europe but he did not rule out Achraf remaining at Dortmund on a permanent basis. "Achraf is the best in the world in his position, along with [Trent] Alexander-Arnold," Camaño said. "All of the big clubs in Europe want him and of course Real Madrid are one of them, but Dortmund remains an option for us. We'll wait and see."

"If Madrid want me to return, I will go back," Achraf has said on more than one occasion, but with the intention of gaining a starting role. If he is not guaranteed that at the Bernabéu, the expectation is that he will look elsewhere. With Madrid's summer plans on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic, no decision will be made until the end of the season. Achraf is under contract until 2021 at Madrid with an extension clause in his deal that can be triggered to add two more years but he will not be short of suitors this summer if he decides his future lies elsewhere.
